In Friday night CIBACOPA action, Hermosillo improved to 10-3 with a win over Tepic 92-75. Tepic is still searching for their first victory of the season and made some bigtime changes a few days ago in hopes to get things going in the right direction...De'Angelo Riley was one of those new comers to Tepic and he had 17 points and 16 boards. Wednesday night in the CIBACOPA was en fuego with all teams battling to improve their overall standing 12 games into the season. The Rayos, after falling Tuesday night to the Ostioneros, fought back last night and won 93-82 to maintain a first place tie at the top of the league with Guayamas. The Zonkeys also won, beating Los Mochis 85-80 improving to 8-3 in the process. Nogales beat Tepic again 83-73 and is 7-5. The Frayles beat Cananea 88-81. Tonight all teams in the CIBACOPA run it back against the same teams they faced Tuesday night. The Ostioneros and Rayos is the marquee match up. A win by the Ostioneros would put them two games up on the Rayos while sending Hermosillo on a three game slide in the process. If that happens, Tijuana, with another win over the Pioneros of Los Mochis tonight would move ahead of the Rayos into second place overall at 9-3. CIBACOPA action resumes tomorrow night with a full slate of games on Tuesday. Hermosillo and Guayamas lead the way at the top of the league standings at 8-2, followed by Tijuana at 6-3. After those top three teams there is a log jam with Navolato, Nogales, Cananea, and Los Mochis even at 5-5, followed by Guasave at 4-6 and Culiacan at 3-7 and Tepic, who is winless at 0-9. All teams played in the CIBACOPA Friday night with the Rayos of Hermosillo solidifying their top spot overall with a 92-82 win over Culiacan. Los Mochis fell to a Fuerza Guinda squad, 74-69. Tijuana got back on the winning track with an 85-74 win over Guasave. The Mineros outran the Coras of Tepic, who are in a world of winless hurt, 86-70. Last night was Big Miercoles in the CIBACOPA (Mex) with a full slate of games on tap. The Zonkeys (Tijuana) and the Rayos (Hermosillo) took top billing as both teams jockeyed for the top spot overall in the league. After dealing the Zonkey's their first loss of the season Tuesday night in overtime, Hermosillo won again last night but in different fashion as the Rayos ran away from the Zonkeys 87-66 winning for the second time in as many nights. The Zonkey's of Tijuana and the Rayos of Hermosillo will run it back tonight in Hermosillo for the second game in a high powered early season match up. Last night, Hermosillo got the better of Tijuana winning 98-93 in OT while taking over the top spot overall in the league in the process. Omar Quintero paced the Zonkeys in the first half with 18 but it wasn't enough in the end. Both teams run it back tonight in Hermosillo. Just six games into the CIBACOPA season and you can see some separation. The Zonkey's have done their tarea in the off season and cleary have made a mission to improve upon last years campaign by making a deeper run into the post season and possibly even winning a title. Though they are still unbeaten at 5-0, TJ doesn't have a top scorer, rebounder or dime dropper in the league overall. The Zonkey's improved to 5-0 after beating Fuerza Guinda 76-68 last nigt in CIBACOPA action. Omar Quintero led the Zonkey's with 19 and Louis McCollough put up 17 in the loss. Four games on the slate last night in Mexico's CIBACOPA. Navolato stayed unbeaten after downing the Frayles (1-2) 100-91.
