ISTANBUL -- Before it can win a world championship, the United States needed to start looking like a world champion.
Kevin Durant, Chauncey Billups and the rest of the Americans finally had that appearance Monday, powering into the quarterfinals with a 121-66 victory over Angola.
"Obviously we want to stay humble, but at the same time we have to know that we can do it," forward Kevin Love said. "We know regardless of what people are saying, that we still are the favorites and we should play and...

Argentina's Top Five, Can You Name 'Em?

Who's En Fuego in Argentina?
Yeah, that's right, Nitro started it, I'm to blame! You'll thank me for it because I, in the end, am educating you. Well, I have to be educated first and then I'll pass the knowledge along to you, teacher-student relationship, remember? Socrates and Plato...or something like that. (Someone email me if it's the other way around or if Aristotle was in there...could he shoot threes?)
Anyway, the Southern Hemisphere ballers in Argentina and En Fuego Hoops have embarked on an unofficial quest to name the best players from Latin America NOT playing in the NBA. If you haven't been there already, check www.ULTIMABOLA.COM.AR for the latest on who is the next Manu 'Jordan' in Argentina. We're gonna go around the horn in America Latina to find the best talent. Feel free to chime in if you'd like, it goes like this: give us your best five Argentinians, (or Mexicans for that matter) who are NOT playing in the NBA and we'll tell you if you're right. That's how a student-teacher relationship works, remember? Email me here or comment below...Play like it's your last day on Earth, sucka.
There was no lack of foreign talent at the NBA draft tonight, that's for sure. Someone correct me if I'm wrong but did any foreigners come from this side of the pond? I'm mean from the America's...anyone? What gives? In a region that's home to almost half a billion folks we should see a more consistent turnout of solid and, yes I'll say it, impact players from Latin America.
There is no excuse and if you have one send it to

immediately. It amazed me...but then again after thinking...I suppose it wasn't all that surprising. After all, can you name the best player in Latin America right now? How 'bout the best player from Latin America playing somewhere else? That's a tough one.
First name that popped into my head was Romel Castro Beck who plays for team Mexico...but then, after thinking on it, he doesn't really count, at least not in this argument anyway. He's really from L.A. and was hoops schooled in the U.S. Scratch him.
The second name that came to mind was Mexico's Gustavo Ayon who after winning his second LNBP title with the Halcones of Xalapa got a shot with Fuenlabrada in Spain's top league the ACB. (The Ricky 'lottery pick from SPAIN' Rubio league.) Gus, is Mexican born but did play college ball in the U.S., I think...which, again for this argument, doesn't really count. Strike two. I'm gonna stop there because I can see this going nowhere fast. Besides, it's really not fair to some other players out there who probably top the list but just won't come to mind because I'm fried.
The point is, Rubio has been on everyone's radar even before he went 'Pistol Pete' in Beijing. He's a product of Spainish basketball who at age 18 is deemed more prepared for the NBA than just about every DI U.S. player who entered the Draft. Who's on the radar in Latin America? ...Bueller...Bueller...Bueller...? Exactly, if you can tell me who that might be I'll send you an En Fuego Hoops Taco Pie.
