Under Monty Williams’ leadership, the Suns followed up their Finals appearance in 2021 with the best record in team history.
Monty Williams will remain coach of the Phoenix Suns for the foreseeable future after earning a “long-term” extension with the franchise, ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported Saturday.
Per Wojnarowski’s report, Williams had two more years remaining on a five-year contract and will now be extended for “several” more seasons beyond that. The deal marks the latest in a string of moves to maintain the Suns’ core, including extensions for Devin Booker and Deandre Ayton.

The reigning NBA Coach of the Year, Williams led the Suns to the best record in team history at 64-18 last season. While they flamed out in the second round against Dallas, it marked an impressive follow-up to their Finals appearance in 2021.
Williams, 50, boasts a 149-78 record in three seasons with the Suns, including consecutive playoff appearances to snap a 10-year postseason drought for the franchise.
His career mark stands at 322-299 with five previous campaigns in New Orleans.
