“Recent imaging of Williamson’s right fifth metatarsal showed continued improvement,” the team said in a statement. “Williamson has been cleared in his return to play progression without any restrictions.”

The No. 1 overall pick of the 2019 NBA Draft missed the entire 2021-22 season due to injury.

Williamson played in just 24 games as a rookie because of a preseason right knee injury (lateral meniscus). In his second season, he played in 61 of 72 games, averaging 27 points per game.

The team hopes Williamson will be ready to return for the start of the 2022-23 season.

The Pelicans were eliminated by the Phoenix Suns in the first round of the 2022 NBA playoffs.
